Gold areas represent exploration licences.
The South Australian Gawler Craton hosts a major copper-gold province, which includes the giant Olympic Dam orebody and the more recent discoveries at Prominent Hill and Carrapateena. There is a strong probability that futher mineralisation is concealed beneath the cover sequence and significant discoveries remain to be made.
St Barbara has assessed the prospectivity of the province for concealed IOCG (iron oxide copper-gold) deposits using reprocessed aeromagnetic and gravity data. This work has identified several attractive areas in the Coober Pedy region over which exploration licences have been obtained. The company is in the process of collating further data and refining interpretations and evaluating requirements for geophysical surveys to define more specific drill targets.
